We got in late from our trip so today’s blog is brief.

My 65th Wichita North High School reunion was great. We shared stories of laughter, joy, and difficulties.

Reunions always have bittersweet edges to wonderful memories. I missed those who could not make it for health reasons and reunions always bring up memories of those who have passed.

We also saw family and former teammates in Hutchinson. Again it was a great time but with some bittersweet edges.

I am thankful for safe travels –although the airplanes seats seem to be getting smaller.

I hope my Jewish friends had a meaningful Yom Kippur last week. It fell on October 2 this year.

October 2 has special meaning for Jeny and me because that is the anniversary of Dawn’s death.

Either-Or vs Both. One quick item caught my eye this week. The conservative cartoon Mallard Fillmore referenced an article that reported most Americans think individual choices rather than societal factors keep people in poverty. The cartoon and the poll create an either-or approach. Unfortunately, I believe that approach contributes to the political divide in our country.

In my opinion we need more people thinking both individual responsibility AND societal factors contribute to poverty. We need to work together on both factors rather than focusing on one and ignoring the other. Finger-pointing and division will not make America great.
