Thou Shalt Not Kill. I am very sad. Look closely at the picture. The state of Alabama is going to kill the man this week. He was one of several men who robbed a store. He left the store. One robber stayed behind and killed a clerk. The killer was tried but given life in prison.

Charles Lee Burton was sentenced to be executed.

I ask myself why?

Does he look like a threat to society?

Do I really believe killing him will be a deterrent?

Will justice be met when the victim’s relative does not want him executed?

Do I believe killing him when he did not kill anyone is following the 10 Commandments?

I believe many self-proclaimed Christians would do better to meditate on the 10 Commandments rather than worrying about displaying them.

Bombing of Iran. When I was at Illinois State, the Foreign Language Deartment had several problems. The Dean of Arts and Sciences asked me to chair the department and conduct a search for a new chair.

Among the many frictions in the department, I was surprised to learn that two of the Spanish professors disliked each other because of history. They were from two countries in South America. I have forgotten the names of which countries from which they came. In 1979, they carried a grudge against each other for something that happened over 200 hundred years ago.

I remember that grudge when I read about the collateral damage in the “defensive” action taken by Israel and the United States. Innocent school girls were killed whem their school was bombed.

Iranian girls’ school decimated, dozens killed. What we know

Who attacked a girls’ school in Iran, and will there be accountability?

I have a very limited understanding of the Middle East, but I am certain that generations from now the families of those girls will not have warm and fuzzy feelings about Israel and the United States. I won’t be alive, but I would not be surprised if acts of revenge and retribution occurred in the future. Please note, I am not addressing the issue of whether or not we should have attacked Iran, I am saying we cannot assume there will not be consequences for our actions

CO2. I saw a Facebook post by a climate change denier. He said CO2 is not a toxic chemical. We do not need to worry about it. We need it for life.

I knew nothing about CO2 so I tried to educate myself. My reading makes me agree it is necessary for life but it is also a negative factor in climate change. To understand the situation requires understanding of subtleties.  Here is one source. You can read and decide for yourself. Carbon dioxide – Wikipedia

This and That

Annointment. I am a man of faith. God is in control whether the person is a Republican or a Democrat. To claim Trump was anointed by Jesus to invade Iran is an assumption I am not willing to make.

More people moved out of the US than immigrated.

For first time in 90 years, more people are leaving the US than moving in

MAGA was unhappy with the lack of decorum by some Progressives during the recent State of the Union address. I agree. I did not like MAGA disrupting Biden when he was president and I think the same about disrupting Trump.

I would go further. I do not like the lack of decorum in hearings, on social media, during press conferences and many other events in Washington — including the counting of electoral votes.
