Next Reunion. We are recovering from our student reunion just in time to attend my 65th high school reunion in Wichita, Kansas. We are flying this time, but I am worried about how the government shut down will affect travel.
I have a friend who has studied reunions. He says the early ones are not rewarding because most people are full of themselves or have high school insecurities. By the time the 30th reunion rolls around people have had money problems, marital issues, job difficulties and are glad to see each other. By the 65threinion, people are glad to be alive.
I came from a large class. I am glad we still have people alive and interested in having a reunion. The sad part will be mourning those who are gone and those who are facing illness and other forms of decline.
Water, Water Everywhere. Recently I had two amazing experiences. Both incidences involved water.

We had to buy a new refrigerator. We like the arrangement of the shelves and drawers. The first time Jeny got crushed ice the auger froze. We were on warranty so the plumbers came out, thawed the ice-maker and replaced the auger. After they left, I selected water and before I put my glass in the proper location, water started pouring. I did not push the dispenser.
I quickly pushed cubes and the water stopped. I called the plumbers back. When they returned, to my embarrassment everything worked as it was supposed to work.
They left and I prepared to leave for my Friday luncheon. As I started to walk out the door I heard a strange sound. When I looked, water was pouring out of the refrigerator. I switched to cubes and it stopped flowing. A few seconds faster out the door and we would have had water pouring out for at least an hour and a half.

The second occurred when our friend Jennifer called. Her neighbor came home to walk the dog and saw water pouring out of our mobile home where she lives. He tried to shut off the water at the main but could not figure out how to do it.
I raced to the mobile home. Just as I was pulling in to the mobile home park, a plumbing truck pulled in ahead of me. I chased the truck down and a very nice young man followed me to our mobile home. He had to work hard but he got the water shut off. I do not know how we would have gotten it off if he had not been at the right place at the right time.

I am thankful neither bad experience turned into a calamity. Both of them could have cost us a lot of money. The valuable lesson I learned was to have the right tool to shut off the water. I strongly suggest owning the tool and knowing how to shut off the water.
This and That
Charlie Kirk. I confess I was not aware of Charlie Kirk or Turning Point before his despicable assassination. I will be studying his life and share my thoughts after I have digested what I learn about his life. In the meantime, I continue to be saddened by the divisions in our country. His death has brought out the useless finger pointing and denials on both sides.
Dogs are not always man’s or woman’s best friend. I was stunned to read that in Alabama this year six people have been killed by dogs.
